How To Keep Grass Growing Stardew Valley

I can't keep enough grass growing for the life of me. The way I've set up things up so far I actually don't see a nice mode to expand either. I accept had to do a temporary extension off to the left where a lot of grass is growing (off screen) and information technology looks awful. When I try to make the grass grow closer to the barn again they eat it first because it's closest. Is there a proper style to rotate fields? How do you keep plenty grass growing?

Honestly, I don't carp worrying nearly it. To the left and right of the lower swimming is my grass field with two barns, three coops and plenty of silos acting every bit a fence only above the area. I'm simply letting the pigs out for the truffles and I plan to harvest the right portion of the grass field from time to time buying surplus grass from Marnie when necessary. Growing sufficient grass requires large fields and the area in your screenshot is probably plenty for just the poultry.

I have a deluxe befouled and deluxe coop, and I generally feed my animals with hay....real estate is to valuable to have a big pasture for free range animals.
and then when I kickoff gear up my farm I racked up a large surplus of hay in my silos merely I take been burning through it at a steady rate.....and there isn't enough grass growing to restock at the same charge per unit I utilise it....

If y'all're trying to grow grass in a small-scale contained area similar me...
You can endeavour fencing off parts to let grass grow then alternating them.
This is my current plan.

My previous organisation was a longer fenced off area towards of the left. But animals aren't smart at finding grass and ignored the grass further on the left side then ate hay instead.
I hope this one that'south more of a square works better.
Yea the trouble is they consume the grass closest to the barn first. My fruit copse are all in the way there for extending. Not sure where to redo things :/.
grow a big patch of grass.. and harvest many little holes in it.
and dont forget sometimes you may accept to swing your scythe twice to properly harvest a patch.
grass grows by the grass at edges spreading.
the more than edges it has, the more it volition grow.

grass thats already surrounded by more grass will not contribute to spreading.

if you lot need to let the grass infront of your barn abound dorsum, harvest somewhere else and keep the door airtight. feed them the hay instead.

and dont forget yous can grow grass under fruit copse after they're mature.
If you're going to rotate fields, why not have the barn/coop in the center, surrounded by fences...and then have the fields on each side, and just take the gate/style opened on the style yous want them to go?
This way the befouled/coop is centralized, and you can easily button them to the area you want them to, without having to really jump through hoops. They also shouldn't get too dislocated I'd retrieve, and not be able to find grass. ^^
I just buy additionmal grass starters at the commencement of the year and as well keep my livestock in their barns/coops during the first few days, and then that the grass hasd more than time to spread

Information technology's easier to simply feed them hay, merely being able to properly graze them in a contained area is also a kind of a goal I'd want my farm to achieve.
not sure in your case only in my instance with v animals 30 grass patches are enough then they grow more than the animals simply i accept to mention simply i plantet the grass i had a few rain days the side by side couple of weeks.

Edit: I added the stone path after i noticed the grass doesn't grow there since the cow/pig eat information technology upwards in that expanse asap
I have constitute that if I get out the gate open up they just go eat grass elsewhere on the farm, and then come up back at nighttime. Anyone know if there is a downside to the free range animal choice?
Aside from them running effectually everywhere on your farm, there is no downside ... they don´t destroy something or eat things they aren´t supposed to consume ... just may get in your style while working
Thank Godot, I hadn't noticed whatever downsides but I know some animals are fussy nigh how they similar to exist treated. Currently (at the finish of fall) information technology is the best way for me to make certain they are grass fed as running low in their paddock.
i only recently into 3. yr build a contend cause i had enough of the animals blocking me while doing my crops
I have also much grass... then again I intentionally left a whole side of the farm untouched for that sole purpose. Its paid off pretty well! cept my animals arent eating it fast enought lol.
If you're not going to fence them in, my recommendation at least is to fence off the "completely wild" areas...as I imagine it could exist possible for them to get stuck in there, particularly if you close the doors early (I personally close them just before bed, heh).
Only keep them from getting stuck on stones, logs and weeds, basically.
Ahh I do not have those on my farm merely thank for the advice Caudyr, will go along that in mind at the first of each season.
One thing that did stop me having a lot of grass to feed them in their paddock was when I moved to Spring I establish that no grass spawned within the fenced area around my barn. Was this coincidence or should I demolish my debate before spring to try to ensure I get a adept starting amount of grass?
Yeah, I don't recall anything will spawn within the fenced in areas or something like that.
I imagine you might just need to destroy 1 section of fence and not the unabridged thing, though. There probably just needs to exist an "opening" for the stuff to get in, I'd say, heh.

lol has anyone tried fencing in a big expanse of the farm, to see if having fence between the edge of the subcontract and the residue is the stopper? I wonder if it would go impossible for rocks to spawn if you did that. >.>
Grass is a pain - they'll eat your starters! Y'all Really have to piece of work at it to proceed grass effectually. Kind of weird, since in rl, it spreads secret and can fill up those areas.
